Assistant Director, Research Security and Export Controls

Became an RA: The 2010's

When I was finishing my PhD in neuroscience, I wanted to leave bench research but still support science and discovery. I wasn’t sure how, but then an opportunity popped up in my department to move to grants management. The department manager (who became my first real boss) and I leveraged my undergraduate minor in math to get me into a position that usually wanted accountants. I found myself helping researchers put together grant proposals and manage the grants they had. It was great!

Sr. Grants & Finance Administrator

Became an RA: The 1990's

I began my career as a RA in spring 1999 with department of Chemistry. When I started, I was only working Post-Award. As the time went by, I was moved to handle Pre & Post award for the Department of Chemistry and then added Department of Engineering as well. I managed both departments with roughly 60 submissions each year and 60 funded awards each year.
Recently I changed universities where I am the Sr. Grants & Finance Manager for School of Social Work where I handle cradle to grave.
My faculty are the reason I continue in this role. They are amazing and so appreciative.
