Became an RA: The 2000's

I had been working in fundraising and development for various LGBTQ and/or HIV-related non-profits for over a decade when a former colleague of mine started to heavily court me to come work for his new HIV research center as it’s inaugural administrative director – handling all post award matters on the various grants that were funding the center. I was perfectly happy with where I was in my career and continued to turn down his repeated requests over a 6-month period. He was relentless and I started to experience some burn-out in constantly asking people for money so I finally acquiesced and the rest, as they say, is history. Over 20 years later and my experience now covers both pre and post, public and private institutions, and I have worked in and/or led research centers, department level offices, school-wide offices, and central university offices.
