I joined my first research office in the role of a manuscript editor; when my supervisor decided to retire, they restructured our office and my position was dissolved. Simultaneously, our grants administrator decided to leave the staff role for full-time faculty so I was offered her position. I agreed. When there is sufficient time before submission deadlines, I like to review the narrative portions of grant proposal content with my editorial eye for the grammar and punctuation stuff.
