I had previously worked in Personnel Budgeting for 13 years and I would say I never wanted to work with grants. However, we went through a massive system conversion, and I was told my department would be eliminated. I had about 9 months to look for another position and had to apply within the university like any other prospect. I applied for a Post Award Financial Analyst position within Post Award Research Administration. I knew nothing about Research Administration but consider myself a quick learner. Low and behold, I was hired…into a grant position, which was the last place I ever wanted to be. Now, after having my position for almost 4 years, I love what I do. I enjoy the ever-changing pace. As Baylor recently became an R1 Institution, we become busier every day and I am thoroughly enjoying it! I’m looking forward to earning several certifications as I learn more about Research Administration.
