How Streamlyne stacks up

If you are evaluating research administration software, you are almost certainly looking at some of these. Here is where Streamlyne genuinely differs — and the cost question that decides most of these evaluations once the demos are over.

Skip to the cost story →
Unified platform vs. modular ecosystem

Streamlyne vs Cayuse

A modular suite assembled from acquisitions. The comparison that matters is unified platform versus a set of products you coordinate yourself.

Shared roots, different decades

Streamlyne vs Kuali

Streamlyne and Kuali share ancestry in the same open-source project. What happened to each codebase since is the whole story.

See the comparison →
Configurable vs. configured

Streamlyne vs InfoEd

A long-established suite with deep configurability. The question is what that configurability costs you every year in consultants.

See the comparison →
Software line item vs. services line item

Streamlyne vs Huron

A consulting firm that also sells software. Worth knowing which half of the relationship your budget ends up funding.

See the comparison →
Point solution vs. system of record

FundFit vs Atom Grants

A newer, AI-first entrant aimed at the same offices. Where it overlaps with FundFit, and where a full eRA record of truth still matters.

See the comparison →
Catalogue vs. matching engine

FundFit vs Pivot-RP

The incumbent funding database, and genuinely good at being one. The question is whether a bigger catalogue is what your researchers were missing.

See the comparison →
Coverage vs. what happens next

FundFit vs GrantForward

Builds researcher profiles automatically, exactly as FundFit does. The differences all sit after the match is made.

See the comparison →
Benchmarking vs. discovery

FundFit vs Academic Analytics

Not really a competitor — it benchmarks scholarly output rather than finding funding. Worth reading if both landed on the same shortlist.

The cost story

What the quote shows you, and what it doesn't

Every eRA proposal you receive will lead with a license fee. That is one of three numbers that decide what the system actually costs your institution over the years you will run it.

01

The license

The only number that reliably appears in the proposal. It is also the smallest of the three for most institutions, which is why it is the one you get shown first.

02

The implementation

Discovery, configuration, data migration, integrations, training. Often quoted as a separate project, sometimes by a separate company, and frequently larger than year one of the license.

03

The consultants you keep

The recurring cost nobody forecasts: the outside help you need every time a form, workflow, or report has to change. If your team cannot make that change themselves, this line never goes away.

There is a fourth number nobody quotes, and it is the one you can work out for yourself: what the system you have now costs on a day it does not work.Work out what downtime costs your office

Institutions consistently pay significantly less with Streamlyne — and the gap widens across the second and third line, not just the first.

Two design decisions cause that. Streamlyne ships as one system rather than a set of modules that have to be bought and integrated separately, so the implementation is one project instead of several. And forms, workflows, and reports are configurable by your own staff, so the change you need next quarter does not become a statement of work.

We do not publish per-institution pricing, because it depends on your size, the modules you start with, and what you are migrating. What we will do is put real numbers against your situation on a call.

Being pushed into a replatform you didn't ask for?

If your current vendor has announced that your system is being retired, rebuilt, or migrated onto something new — and the upgrade path comes with a fresh implementation fee — you have more options than the one in the email.

Streamlyne runs alongside your legacy system, module by module, on your timeline. You switch when you are ready, not when a contract says so.

  • Run in parallel — no big-bang cutover
  • Awards, proposals, and protocols keep their history
  • Full data export at any time, in standard formats
  • Start with the modules you need, add the rest later
