2026 NAAF Research Grants

About this program

The National Alopecia Areata Foundation (NAAF) is soliciting 2026 Research Grant proposals to fund one-year projects (up to $75,000 direct costs, no indirects) that advance understanding of alopecia areata and development of safe, effective treatments across basic, translational, clinical, epidemiologic and technology-focused research. Priority topics include pathophysiology and animal models, development of AA-specific patient-reported outcome measures, secondary analysis of NIH’s All of Us, comorbidities, disease triggers, treatment decision tools, and the burden/psychosocial impact on patients and families. Applicants must hold an MD, DO, PhD or equivalent, be eligible to apply under their host institution, and provide relevant IRB/IACUC approvals; investigators worldwide and prior NAAF grantees may apply. Applications are submitted via Proposal Central by 11:59 PM PT on September 17, 2026, with awards anticipated by December 31, 2026 and an expected start date of January 15, 2027.
