About this program
The National Opera Association’s 2026 Scholarly Papers Competition recognizes outstanding research on operatic performance, history, theory, music, libretto, theater, and related subjects. The winning author will receive the $500 Leland Fox Scholarly Paper Stipend, present the paper at NOA’s January 2027 National Conference in Minneapolis, and be considered for publication in The Opera Journal.
The competition is open to students, adjunct and contingent faculty, and junior or pre-tenure faculty; NOA membership and an application fee are not required. Submissions must be original, unpublished papers of 4,000–6,000 words with substantial research and bibliography, submitted electronically by October 1, 2026; previous winners may not reapply.
