About this program
The Society for Medical Anthropology (SMA) offers annual AAA Conference Student Travel Awards to support students attending the American Anthropological Association annual meeting. Five graduate student awards provide $500 each, while one undergraduate award supports a student facing personal or institutional barriers to conference travel. Graduate applicants must be current SMA student members presenting an accepted paper or poster and submit proof of membership and acceptance, the abstract, and an advisor recommendation; undergraduate applicants need not be SMA members or presenters but must submit a one-page personal statement and an advisor letter documenting financial need. Applications are due September 1, 2026, with awardees notified by October 3.
