AACR Gertrude B. Elion Cancer Research Award

About this program

The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), with support from GlaxoSmithKline, offers the Gertrude B. Elion Cancer Research Award to support tenure-eligible junior faculty conducting basic, translational, or clinical research on cancer etiology, diagnosis, treatment, or prevention. The award provides $225,000 for one year beginning November 1, 2026, to support project-related personnel, supplies, equipment, travel, and publication costs.

Applicants must hold a doctoral degree, an assistant professor-level tenure-eligible appointment, independent laboratory space, and have begun their first independent faculty position within the past six years. Applicants may be based at academic, medical, or research institutions worldwide, must be AACR members in good standing by the June 4, 2026, letter-of-intent deadline, and cannot be tenured, hold a substantial independent research award, or concurrently hold another AACR grant.
