AAG Globe Book Award for Public Understanding of Geography

About this program

The American Association of Geographers (AAG) awards the annual Globe Book Award—a $1,000 prize (with possible Honorable Mention)—to a book that most powerfully conveys the nature and importance of geography to non-academic audiences. Eligible titles must be written or co-authored by a geographer and first published in English (in any country) between October of the previous year and September of the current year, and may be submitted to only one of the AAG’s three book awards. Nominations require a two‑page maximum statement with full contact information documenting public communication, and nominators must ship four copies of each nominated book to AAG headquarters by the deadline (2026-10-15 for the 2027 award); nominees must comply with the AAG Professional Conduct Policy.
