AAG International Geographic Information Funds (AAG-IGIF)

About this program

The American Association of Geographers administers the AAG International Geographic Information Funds (AAG‑IGIF) to support undergraduate and graduate student career development in applied spatial analysis and geographic information science and systems through three award types: Student Paper Awards ($600), Graduate Research Awards (up to $600), and Scholarship Awards ($1,200). Funds, established by gifts from Laura and Jack Dangermond and Esri, are awarded annually by an AAG‑IGIF committee and recipients are encouraged to attend the AAG Annual Meeting for recognition. Applicants must be full‑time students at accredited U.S. institutions in a program with a degree or specialization in SA/GISS and must submit a faculty advisor letter verifying status; additional materials vary by award (Student Paper: paper acceptance and proof of presentation at a qualifying conference held Aug 2025–Jul 2026 plus the full paper; Graduate Research: 4‑page proposal, budget, Jan–Dec 2026 timeline and advisor support letter; Scholarship: CV, advisor letter and up to 3‑page statement). The 2027 cycle reopens in 2026 with a listed deadline of 2026‑11‑15 and awardees are notified by December 15.
