AAG Research Grants

About this program

The American Association of Geographers (AAG) offers small research grants of up to $500 to support direct research and fieldwork expenses (salary and institutional overhead are excluded). Awards are not available for master's or doctoral dissertation research and funds may be used only for direct project costs. Applicants must have been AAG members for at least two years and be in compliance with the AAG Professional Conduct Policy; proposals that address major disciplinary questions and show promise of securing subsequent foundation or federal support are prioritized. Applications are due by 15 November 2026 (EST) with decisions announced ~three months later; recipients must submit a one‑page report documenting activities and expenses and acknowledge AAG support.
