AAG Stanley Brunn Award for Creativity in Geography

About this program

The American Association of Geographers (AAG) awards the annual Stanley Brunn Award for Creativity in Geography to an individual geographer or team demonstrating originality, creativity, and significant intellectual breakthroughs across field or lab research, methods, technological or arts/humanities intersections, or conceptual/theoretical advances; the prize is $1,000 and recipients are presented at the AAG Annual Meeting. Nominations must be submitted by AAG members (junior and senior scholars encouraged) and nominees must be living AAG members who comply with the AAG Professional Conduct Policy. Required nomination materials are the nominee’s full name and address, a CV or record of the team’s work, a concise (max 500-word) description of accomplishments addressing the award criteria, and two supporting letters (a third may be submitted). Submissions are made via the AAG online application form; the 2027 cycle opens later in 2026 with a deadline of September 30, 2026 (midnight EST).
