About this program
The American Association of Geographers (AAG) offers the Susan Hardwick Excellence in Mentoring Award to recognize geographers, groups, or departments that demonstrate exceptional mentorship, foster inclusive academic and professional environments, and support the development of students and junior colleagues. The nonmonetary awardee may be invited to share replicable mentoring practices through an interview or publication in the Journal of Geography in Higher Education. Eligible nominees may come from academic, public, private, or nonprofit sectors, and self-nominations are welcome; posthumous nominations are generally not accepted. Nominations are due September 15, 2026, and must include a 500-word maximum justification, up to three recommendation letters, and a CV for individual nominees, with compliance with AAG’s Professional Conduct Policy required.
