AAG Wilbanks Prize for Transformational Research in Geography

About this program

The American Association of Geographers (AAG) offers the Wilbanks Prize for Transformational Research in Geography to recognize geographers whose research has substantially transformed geography, GIScience, or science and society; the recipient receives $2,000 and a commemorative statuette. Individual geographers from academic, public, private, government, or nonprofit sectors may be nominated or apply, provided they comply with the AAG Professional Conduct Policy. Nominations must demonstrate transformative research—not service, teaching, or education—and include a CV, a nomination statement of no more than 2,500 words, and, preferably, up to three recommendation letters; the deadline is September 15, 2026, by midnight Eastern Time.
