AAS/AASF Trainee Research Fellowship Awards

About this program

The Association for Academic Surgery (AAS), through the AAS Foundation, offers four $30,000 Trainee Research Fellowship Awards for surgical residents and fellows conducting basic, translational, clinical outcomes, health services, education, or global surgery research. Awards support salary and direct project costs from July 1, 2027, through March 1, 2029; applications are due September 18, 2026. Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited surgical training program, have completed at least two years of postgraduate surgical training, hold or be applying for AAS Candidate Membership, and have an Active or Senior AAS member as research mentor. Projects must be sponsored by the applicant’s department, completed within the funding period, and cannot include indirect costs or overlapping expenses from other awards.
