AAUW American Doctoral Fellowship

About this program

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) offers the American Doctoral Fellowship as part of its American Fellowships program to provide one year of funding to offset doctoral expenses and to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in academia. Awards are open to women pursuing doctoral study in any field, with particular encouragement for applicants in STEM fields or those researching gender issues; the program is AAUW’s flagship and the longest-running non-institutional source of graduate funding for women in the U.S. Applicants should be women enrolled in doctoral programs and prepare to apply during the stated cycle (applications open August 17, 2026 and close September 30, 2026); award notifications occur in April 2027 with stipends disbursed in mid and late 2027.
