About this program
The Academy of American Poets offers a $5,000 First Book Award to support an emerging poet’s first full-length poetry collection, with the winning manuscript published by Graywolf Press. The winner also receives broad book distribution and promotional opportunities through the Academy and its publications. Applicants must submit a manuscript for their first book during the 2027 submission period, July 1–September 1, 2026; the manuscript will be judged by acclaimed poet John Keene.
