AEA Award for Outstanding Achievement in Diversity and Inclusion

About this program

The American Economic Association offers its annual Award for Outstanding Achievement in Diversity and Inclusion to recognize U.S.-based economics departments and organizations demonstrating exceptional diversity and inclusion practices. Up to four winners receive prominent recognition through AEA platforms and early access to ASSA hotel reservations for ten years. Eligible applicants include economics departments, think tanks, government divisions, and other organizations employing significant numbers of economists; applications must document effective structures, programs, inclusive culture, and increased participation of underrepresented groups. Applications, limited to 2,000 words and including goals, self-assessment, and plans for improvement, are due by the second Friday in October; no award was presented in 2025.
