About this program
The American Heart Association offers the 2027 Institutional Research Enhancement Award (AIREA), providing $200,000 over two years ($100,000 annually, including indirect costs) for cardiovascular disease and brain health research that strengthens research environments and engages students at institutions with limited NIH support. Eligible applicants include U.S.-based nonprofit, accredited colleges, universities, and health professional or graduate schools meeting NIH R15 eligibility standards, including limits on institutional NIH funding. Principal investigators must hold a primary appointment at an eligible institution, be beyond fellowship or training, maintain an approved citizenship or visa status, and be AHA Professional Members at submission; proposals require institutional eligibility verification and are due through ProposalCentral by September 10, 2026, at 3 p.m. CT.
