AHCJ U.S. Health System Reporting Fellowship

About this program

The Association of Health Care Journalists, with support from The Commonwealth Fund, offers a 12-month fellowship for mid-career U.S.-based journalists to undertake substantial local, regional or national reporting projects on the U.S. health care system, with particular interest in health equity. Benefits include mentorship, covered seminar and conference participation, up to $2,500 for project expenses, and a $5,000 award upon successful completion. Applicants must be working journalists with several years of health-reporting experience who qualify for AHCJ professional membership and must submit a project proposal, résumé, recent work sample, and employer or assigning-editor letter confirming time, editorial support, publication or broadcast, and participation commitments. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis through September 25, 2026, at 5 p.m. CST.
