Albertine Translation

About this program

The Albertine Foundation, in partnership with Villa Albertine’s Books & Ideas department, the Institut français, and France’s Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, supports high-quality English translations and U.S. publication of French and Francophone literature across genres. Selected projects receive $2,000 toward publication costs and up to $5,000 toward translation expenses, with two annual $5,000 translator prizes for fiction/poetry/comics and nonfiction. Eligible applicants include translators, French publishers, and U.S. publishers; works should generally have been published in France within the past 10 years, and the English-language publisher must be based in the United States. Applications for the 2026 second session are due September 1, 2026.
