About this program
The National Speleological Society’s Alvin McDonald Award, new for 2026, recognizes a young cave explorer for outstanding accomplishments in cave exploration. Nominees must be age 30 or younger as of the November 15 deadline, with their birth month and year included in the nomination. Applications should include a detailed main nomination letter of at least two pages and preferably three or four supporting letters of approximately one page each documenting the nominee’s achievements.
