About this program

Region 2 Arts Council, with support from the McKnight Foundation, offers the Anishinaabe Arts Initiative (AAI) Fellowship—typically one unrestricted $5,000 award—to support creative and cultural work by Indigenous artists, culture bearers, or creative individuals living in the Minnesota counties of Becker, Beltrami, Cass, Clearwater, Hubbard, Itasca, Lake of the Woods, Mahnomen, and Roseau. Award funds may be used to explore new directions or continue work in progress, cover production costs, materials or equipment, marketing, travel, research/study, and collaborative or community projects; each fellow’s artwork will be featured on the R2AC website. Applicants must be enrolled tribal members or descendants residing in the listed counties, meet all listed eligibility requirements in the program PDF, and will be scored on creative vision, creative or cultural experience, and the proposed use of funds; applications are submitted online via GrantInterface by November 1, 2026, and applicants should contact R2AC staff with any eligibility questions.
