About this program

The New-York Historical Society offers the 2026–27 Helen and Robert Appel Fellowship in History and Technology, a ten‑month residential award (Sept 9, 2026–June 30, 2027) with a $60,000 stipend plus benefits to support research on the impact of technology on history. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. awarded at least one year before the fellowship start and must plan to use collections in the NYHS Patricia D. Klingenstein Library that are central to the proposed project. Applications are due January 11, 2026 and require a 2–3 page proposal describing the research theme and key NYHS resources, a CV, a short writing sample (≤3,000 words or 10 pages), and three letters of recommendation submitted via Interfolio (free Dossier account provided).
