Archaeological Field Research in the Development of Early Civilizations

The Curtiss T. & Mary G. Brennan Foundation provides seed funding for archaeological field research on the origins and development of early complex cultures and civilizations, with priority given to active fieldwork and excavation. Post-excavation analysis and publication are considered only when linked to previously funded field projects, and grants are intended to leverage additional support or address threatened archaeological resources. Applications must be submitted by an eligible tax-exempt nonprofit institution through a principal investigator holding a Ph.D. or equivalent; dissertation research, individual applicants, institutional overhead, and principal investigator salaries are ineligible. Proposals in letter form are accepted by April 15 and October 15 and must include project, budget, personnel, permit, bibliography, and reference information.
