Arizona Historical Society Research Fellowship

About this program

The Arizona Historical Society offers short-term research fellowships for one- to three-week residencies to support scholarship on the history of Arizona, the U.S. Southwest, and northern Mexico, with preference for projects likely to produce publishable secondary-source work. Awards (typically $500–$2,000) are intended to defray travel and living expenses and may not be used to pay for AHS services such as image reproduction or licensing. Eligible applicants include academics, graduate students, independent researchers, and doctoral or postdoctoral scholars; international applicants are welcome but must have a U.S. Social Security Number or Tax ID, and preference is given to those who will spend most of their residency using AHS archives. Awardees must submit a 2–3 page report and engage AHS’s public audience via social media, presentations, or other outreach; applications open 1 April 2026 and are due 1 November 2026.
