About this program
The Smithsonian Institution’s Lemelson Center for the Study of Invention and Innovation offers the $35,000 Arthur Molella Distinguished Fellowship at the National Museum of American History for research and writing on the history of technology, invention, innovation, or related fields. Funding may support a sabbatical supplement, research expenses, travel, short visits, or a residency of up to seven months beginning between June 1, 2027, and May 30, 2028. Applicants should be experienced authors or senior scholars at the associate, full, or emeritus professor level (or equivalent) in an eligible or allied discipline; Smithsonian staff are not eligible. Applications, including a CV, one-page schedule, and six-page research proposal demonstrating engagement with Smithsonian collections and resources, must be submitted in English through SOLAA by October 15, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. ET.
