About this program
The American-Scandinavian Foundation offers five annual translation prizes, totaling awards of $2,000–$5,000, for outstanding English translations of poetry, fiction, drama, or literary prose by 20th- or 21st-century Nordic authors. Awards include publication of an excerpt in Scandinavian Review and a commemorative bronze medallion, with prizes recognizing translations from Nordic languages, including Norwegian, Danish, Faroese, and Icelandic. Applicants must submit one unpublished translation by a single author, along with a CV, author and work description, appropriately formatted manuscript, and written permission for competition entry and publication. Submissions are due online by September 15 at 11:59 p.m. EDT; additional restrictions apply to prior awards, duplicate submissions, and entries under publication consideration.
