ASLA-Fulbright Research Grants for Junior Scholars

About this program

Fulbright Finland Foundation, co-funded by the Association of Finnish Local and Regional Authorities (ASLA) and the applicant’s home university, offers ASLA-Fulbright Research Grants for Junior Scholars to support Finnish early-career researchers in conducting 3–12 month research visits at U.S. universities or research institutions (typical funding covers up to 6 months) and to act as cultural ambassadors. Grants provide a monthly stipend up to USD 5,000 (maximum USD 30,000), J‑1/J‑2 visa support, orientation and networking activities; stays beyond six months require documented additional funding. Applicants must be Finnish citizens who earned a doctoral degree within four years of the deadline (near-complete PhDs may be considered with supervisor documentation), be employed at and apply through a home university participating in the cost-share program, not already reside in the U.S. or hold U.S. permanent residence/dual U.S.-Finnish citizenship, and comply with J‑1 visa rules (including the two‑year home-residency requirement). Medical research involving clinical training or patient contact is generally ineligible, and institutional approval plus standard application materials are required.
