Award for Excellence in Journalism (American Psychoanalytic Association)

About this program

The American Psychoanalytic Association’s Committee on Public Information offers the annual Award for Excellence in Journalism—a juried $1,000 prize and recognition at APsA’s National Meeting—for professional reporting or short-form writing that illuminates psychoanalytic principles and perspectives for a general audience. Eligible work must be in English, intended for the public, adhere to journalistic standards, and employ an explicitly psychoanalytic perspective that clarifies, challenges, or advances understanding of human behavior, relationships, mental health, or psychologically complex social issues; eligible pieces must have been first published between September 1, 2025 and August 30, 2026. Anyone may submit or nominate an entry by 8:00 p.m. EST on September 30, 2026; submission emails to Aimee Martinez, PsyD, must include author name and email, article title, outlet, publication date, link, whether the author or a nominator is submitting, and where the nominator learned of the award.
