Award for Excellence in Journalism

About this program

The American Psychoanalytic Association’s Committee on Public Information offers a $1,000 Award for Excellence in Journalism recognizing high-quality reporting or short-form writing that advances public understanding of human behavior, relationships, mental health, or complex social issues through an explicitly psychoanalytic perspective. The award includes recognition at APsA’s National Meeting and is judged by journalists and psychoanalysts experienced in public communication.

Authors or nominators may submit eligible English-language work intended for a general audience and first published between September 1, 2025, and August 30, 2026. Submissions must follow journalistic standards and clearly incorporate psychoanalytic principles beyond broad mental health coverage; materials are due by 8:00 p.m. EST on September 30, 2026.
