George Garrett Award for Outstanding Community Service in Literature

The Association of Writers & Writing Programs (AWP) offers the annual George Garrett Award for Outstanding Community Service in Literature to recognize individuals who have made exceptional contributions of time, care, labor, or financial support to writers and literary communities. The award includes a $2,000 honorarium, travel, accommodations, and registration to attend AWP’s annual conference, where it is presented. Applicants are nominated by others rather than applying themselves, with nomination letters accepted through AWP’s online portal each year from September 1 through October 31. Nominees may be teachers, writers, editors, administrators, mentors, or others whose sustained service has supported the development and accomplishments of fellow writers.
