About this program
The Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) offers the SAFE Granting Program to support collaborative projects implementing approved Saving Animals From Extinction (SAFE) species program plans and advancing species conservation. Awards provide up to $50,000 for projects lasting up to two years and require a minimum 50% match; applications are due by 5:00 p.m. ET on October 9, 2026. Principal Investigators and Co-Investigators must be individual AZA members and employees of program partner organizations for an approved SAFE species program, with required Statements of Institutional Support from participating facilities. Only one application per SAFE species program will be considered, and proposals should emphasize collaboration and alignment with SAFE and regional or global recovery plans.
