Barbara Wood Scholarship (SFTE Foundation)

About this program

The SFTE Foundation's Barbara Wood Scholarship, named for the late flight test engineer Barbara Wood, provides one‑year undergraduate awards to promote flight‑test careers and to assist dependents of SFTE members pursuing flight‑test‑related degrees. Applicants must be SFTE Student Members with at least six months’ membership or dependents of SFTE members in good standing (dependents of affiliate members are not eligible), pursuing their first undergraduate degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or another technical aerospace‑related discipline, and must have completed their first university year prior to receiving the award. Awards are decided annually by the SFTE Board based on scholastic achievement, alignment of career goals with flight test engineering, extracurricular/community service, available funds and number of winners; the typical deadline is mid‑summer (2026 deadline: August 31) with recipients announced at the International Symposium awards banquet and funds disbursed after the start of the fall term.
