About this program
The California Department of Food and Agriculture’s Beet Curly Top Virus Control Program offers research grants to develop non-pesticide or approved pesticide-based methods for managing beet leafhopper and mitigating beet curly top virus. Projects may receive up to $190,000 annually, with awards supporting one large or multiple smaller projects for up to two years. Businesses, individuals, nonprofits, public agencies, and tribal governments are eligible; matching funds are not required. Proposals are accepted on an ongoing basis but must be submitted at least 30 days before a posted meeting of the Beet Curly Top Virus Control Board or its Diagnostics Subcommittee.
