Benjamin A. Botkin Prize

About this program

The American Folklore Society’s Public Programs Section and Executive Board award the $1,000 Benjamin A. Botkin Prize annually to an individual whose lifetime achievements have made significant contributions to public folklore. The award recognizes work that engages broad public audiences, advances public folklore methods and advocacy, supports communities and traditional cultures, and demonstrates strong scholarship and artistic presentation. Nominees may be submitted by the September 15 deadline through the AFS prize application form, with a single PDF containing a nomination letter, a one- to two-page biography or résumé, and three to five support letters. Support should come from a broad range of contributors, including community members, non-folklorists, and folklore colleagues, and should address the published review criteria.
