Biennial Research Request for Proposals (S.C. Sea Grant Consortium)

About this program

The S.C. Sea Grant Consortium, funded by NOAA’s National Sea Grant College Program, issues a biennial Research RFP (next in 2027) to fund 1–2 year projects on coastal conservation, resilience, sustainable development, fisheries and aquaculture, and education/workforce development, with typical awards of $30,000–$80,000 per year. Only faculty from Consortium member institutions (Clemson, Coastal Carolina, College of Charleston, Francis Marion, MUSC, S.C. Department of Natural Resources, S.C. State, The Citadel, and University of South Carolina) may serve as PIs, though Co‑PIs from other institutions are permitted and partnerships are encouraged. Proposals undergo rigorous peer review and must demonstrate formal stakeholder engagement, interdisciplinary approaches, support for students, plans for outreach and publication, and relevance to management needs. Budgets must include at least 50% non‑federal matching funds (Sea Grant does not pay indirect costs to member institutions, but indirect costs may be used to satisfy the match).
