About this program
The Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) offers the Bologna Scholarship to support one illustrator’s participation in the 2027 Bologna Children’s Book Fair. The award includes full fair registration, up to $1,000 for roundtrip transportation, four nights of standard hotel accommodations, portfolio exhibition and presentation opportunities, and industry networking and publicity. Applicants must be current SCBWI members and submit three or four text-free portfolio images between September 1–30, 2026, tailored to either full-color picture books for ages 4–7 or black-and-white middle-grade books for ages 8–11.
