Books in Progress Fellowship

About this program

The Folger Shakespeare Library offers the Books in Progress Fellowship to support early-career scholars seeking to publish book manuscripts in U.S. academic markets without institutional support for manuscript review. The fellowship provides a $2,000 honorarium, travel and lodging support, and an onsite manuscript-review workshop at the Folger in May or June 2027. Applicants must have a preliminary draft of the full manuscript completed at the time of application and submit a project summary, statement of need, proposed readers and committee chair, a reader’s letter of interest, and CV highlights. Projects should address the early modern humanities, with consideration given to originality, field impact, applicant need, and work addressing inequities or marginalized subjects; applications are due September 14, 2026.
