About this program
The California Department of Education invites eligible local educational agencies to apply for California Serves Grant funding to expand access to effective service-learning programs and increase the number of high school graduates obtaining a State Seal of Civic Engagement through service-learning. Allowable expenses may include paid teacher planning time, professional development for administrators and teachers, instructional materials, participation costs such as materials and travel, personnel costs for coordinating service-learning at an agency or school site, and participation costs related to grant program evaluation. The program is authorized by Assembly Bill 181, Section 71, and is funded from the California General Fund. The total grant budget is up to $5 million annually. The performance period is July 1, 2027, through June 30, 2030. Funding will be provided through advances and reimbursements.
