CAMWS First Book Award

About this program

The Classical Association of the Middle West and South (CAMWS) First Book Award recognizes distinguished first scholarly books or digital equivalents in classical studies, including research on Greek and Roman antiquity and its reception. Eligible works must have been published within the past three years and demonstrate excellent quality, broad significance, awareness of international trends, and substantial impact on scholarly discussion. Nominees, including self-nominations, must be CAMWS members in good standing by September 1; for co-authored books, all authors must meet the first-book and membership requirements. Nominations with publication details should be emailed to firstbook@camws.org by September 1, 2026, for the 2026–27 award.
