CCCC Research Initiative: 2026–2027 Call for Research Proposals

About this program

The Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC) is offering Research Initiative grants for the 2026–2027 cycle of up to $8,000 to support research on language, literacy, communication, rhetoric, and writing (including multimodal, digital, and justice-focused projects) that yields both a scholarly product and a public-facing product addressing implications for policy, instruction, and communities. Recipients are expected to propose CCCC convention sessions, submit publications to College Composition and Communication prior to other outlets, and meet reporting deadlines (decisions announced by January 30, 2027; mid-project report due May 1, 2028; final report for two-year projects due May 1, 2029). Principal investigators must be CCCC members, may submit only one CCCC research proposal per cycle (and grantees cannot apply for CCCC research funding for three years after an award), and proposals—submitted in PDF by 11:59 p.m. ET on September 1, 2026—must include a 1,500-word narrative, up to 300 words of investigator credentials, a one-page budget, and IRB status or plans. Grant funds may be used for direct research costs (e.g., reassigned time/course buyout, student assistance, software, justified equipment) but not for indirect/overhead costs or travel to the CCCC Annual Convention.
