CHRP Basic Bio and Translational Pilots for ESI RFP 2026

About this program

The California HIV Research Program (CHRP) is offering pilot grants to support basic biological and translational HIV/AIDS research led by early-stage investigators (ESIs), intended to generate preliminary data that will position investigators for larger, independent funding. Awards focus on projects addressing CHRP priorities in HIV pathogenesis, prevention, treatment, or cure research and are structured as short-term pilot studies. Eligible applicants are early-stage investigators with faculty or equivalent appointments at CHRP-eligible California institutions who demonstrate appropriate mentorship and institutional commitment and who do not already hold substantial independent research funding. Applicants must submit a project proposal that meets CHRP application requirements, budget and timeline constraints, and deadline specifications.
