About this program

Virginia Center on Aging (VCoA) at Virginia Commonwealth University, funded by an annual Virginia General Assembly appropriation, seeks proposals for the Geriatric Training and Education (GTE) Initiative to support geriatric education and training across Virginia for clinicians, educators, and other service providers, with priority for projects serving historically marginalized and underserved older adults. Individual awards typically range from $1,000–$25,000 (VCoA anticipates up to four awards totaling approximately $50,000) for 12-month projects anticipated to start May 1, 2026. Eligible applicants include institutions of higher education, community-based organizations, local governments, state agencies, and nonprofits with demonstrated adult/aging-related experience; the applicant organization must be fiscally responsible and sign the application, and indirect costs are not permitted (matching or in-kind contributions encouraged but not required). Applications must include a 5–9 page project narrative with specified sublimits, measurable numeric performance targets (at least three goals with 2–3 objectives each), a data collection plan and final performance report; submissions are due March 1, 2026 by 11:59 p.m., and the application link will be posted Jan. 5, 2026 (questions: cdohara@vcu.edu).
