Cost Share for Federal Funding Opportunities Carbon Removal Innovation Support System (CRISP)

About this program

The California Energy Commission offers up to $15 million in cost-share grants through the Carbon Removal Innovation Support Program (CRISP) for projects advancing direct air capture and other technologies that remove atmospheric carbon. Funding supports eligible federal Funding Opportunity Announcement projects, including research, development, demonstrations, prototypes, pilot projects, and research test centers, for up to four years. Applicants must meet the applicable federal FOA and CRISP requirements, provide at least 50% of total project costs from non-CEC sources, and may be eligible for follow-on federal funding under specified prior awards. Projects benefiting disadvantaged or low-income communities or Tribes may receive preference, while projects supporting enhanced oil or gas recovery are ineligible.
