Cyber as a Service

About this program

The Commonwealth Cyber Initiative (CCI) at Virginia Tech accepts rolling proposals for projects in which students deliver cybersecurity services—such as penetration testing or risk analysis—to local Virginia small businesses or nonprofits. Awards are expected to be up to $15,000, with no indirect costs, and projects must support student workforce development during a scheduled academic term. Eligible PIs are researchers or faculty at Virginia public institutions of higher education who are authorized by their institutions to submit external proposals; each may serve on up to two proposals and as PI on one. Projects must last at least one month, use students as primary service providers, compensate students, and serve an organization located in the same county as the PI’s institution.
