Daland Fellowships in Clinical Investigation

About this program

The American Philosophical Society offers a limited number of Daland Fellowships in Clinical Investigation for patient-oriented research in clinical medicine, including internal medicine, neurology, pediatrics, psychiatry, and surgery. Awards provide a $40,000 annual stipend for one year, renewable for a second year based on satisfactory progress, with no institutional overhead support. Applicants must hold an M.D., D.O., or D.N.P. (or corresponding joint degree) earned fewer than eight years ago, conduct research at a U.S. institution under a scientific advisor, and include mandatory direct patient contact. Applications are due September 15, 2026, and must include three confidential support letters from the advisor, department or division head, and another field expert.
