Darrel Hess Community College Geography Scholarship

About this program

The American Association of Geographers offers the Darrel Hess Community College Geography Scholarship to support community college students transferring to four-year institutions as geography majors. Two to four $1,500 scholarships, funded by Darrel Hess, may be used for educational expenses and include a certificate of merit; the application deadline is November 15, 2026. Applicants must be enrolled at a U.S. two-year institution, have completed at least two geography transfer courses, and plan to transfer as geography majors during the following academic year. Applications require transcripts and two instructor recommendations, and selection considers academic excellence, promise, application quality, and financial need.
