About this program
The American Institute of Architects (AIA) offers the Design for Aging Award to recognize innovative architectural and design solutions that improve quality of life for older adults, including built, small, affordable, and unbuilt projects. Submissions open August 28 and are due by 5 p.m. ET on November 3, 2026; the fee is $450 per project. U.S. and international AIA members and nonmembers may apply, but each project must include a U.S.-licensed architect, receive required owner and team permissions, and be submitted only once in one category. Projects must meet category-specific requirements, comply with application formatting and documentation rules, and demonstrate design achievement and relevant environmental and social performance.
